Get Your DD-214 ONLINE

2008-Feb-6 at 10:20 by Veterans Law Project

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided
the following website for veterans to gain access to their
DD-214's online: http://vetrecs.archives.gov/      This may
be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his
DD-214 for employment purposes.  NPRC is working to make it
easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to
obtain copies of documents from their military files.
Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former
military members may now use a new onlinemilitary personnel
records system to request documents.  Other individuals
with a need for documents must still complete the Standard
Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site.
Because the requester will be asked to supply all
information essential for NPRC to process the request,
delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans
for additional information will be minimized.  The new
web-based application was designed to provide better
service on these requests by eliminating the records
centers mailroom and processing time.

2008-Feb-13 - Members / Commander Posted by Anonymous

I was so absolutely shocked,,when my husband and I went to our local FVW,,,ans requested help getting his wheelchair from our car!I was told,,,that I looked strong enough to do it,,,for me to do it myself,,needless to say,,,this VFW lost our lifetime membership!!!And has since{due to other issues} has lost several members, because of the clubs attitude towards other members! I fully realize these clubs have friends,,and it is a meeting place for friends,, and get-togethers,,but for this club to be so SNOBBY and by not recognizing their members as vertens and fellow man,,,,,is appalling! The New Commander has done nothig to improve this situation,,,and laughs it off,,,which is in itself ,,,childish!We/the survivors/loved ones of our fighting soldiers,,,need help in correcting this problem,,,we need to restore some compassion,,,dignity and adhere to some rules that are sorely neglected,,here!AND,,,should apply to ALL,not just the selected group,,.Thank YOu very much.

The person who could not get help from the VFW with the wheel chair breaks my heart. This is probably because the Post has become so inbread with non-member locals they have lost sight of who this is all about.
